Mad Props to Last.fm

Last.fmThat’s right, femur bone flutes. Slowly I have seen the excellent Last.fm become a digital extension of myself. There are few web services that fulfill some of my basic needs so perfectly. Google is for instance one. Whether I’m looking for a certain type of information, an answer to a question, or even how to use a certain word in a sentence, Google Web Search is the service I turn to. When it comes to music, it is Last.fm.

Today alone I’ve listened to over 9 hours of music (closely) matching my taste, served streaming by their radio player. I frequently use their search function to track down a song or artist and play related music for a while to see if there are more songs/artists like it. The music recommendations and neighbor radio are also a welcome variation when Last.fm learned your music taste too well.

I get a good feeling when I see the development team extending and improving the service. Even though there are plenty of features that I do not use, there are a few that are so good you’ll learn to use them. The recently added ‘Recommended Events’ are great. I enter my city and a radius and I instantly get a load of familiar artists I could go see. That is only one of the new features that grabbed my attention, I will probably find more along the way.

Anyway, enough with the ranting. Mad props to Last.fm.
